"Anna and the beer" tour
Anna Dargun, former wife of the 16th century mayor, councillor and merchant Heinrich Schabbell, tells of Wismar's heyday during the Hanseatic period. He was also a master brewer, as were a good 182 other merchants in the Hanseatic city at the time. Wismar beer was an export hit throughout Europe. The Hanseatic cogs brought wine from Spain and France back to the harbour in Wismar. Richly decorated town houses and imposing brick cathedrals still bear witness to the wealth of the Hanseatic League, which make up Wismar's charm and appeal.
