A coffee tasting with a coffee sommelier: challenge your palate and discover the diversity of coffee.
Does coffee just taste like coffee? Not quite. Sometimes it’s fruity, like berries; sometimes nutty or chocolatey; and sometimes even floral. At this team event, you’ll discover just how varied coffee can be and what your palate is already capable of detecting.
Much like with wine, the terroir shapes the flavour. But with coffee, it goes even further: after harvesting, the processing plays a part, followed by the roasting, and finally, the preparation determines what ends up in your cup. That’s quite a few hands and decisions for a single sip. That’s why you’ll be tasting your way through the entire spectrum: classic coffees, quirky varieties and even lower-quality coffees. This usually sparks discussions, and these are expressly encouraged. A nice side effect: the team learns to distinguish personal opinions from objective flavour characteristics.
I’m Sabrina from Kaffeekosmos, a coffee sommelière (Q Grader) and an authorised SCA trainer. I’ll come to your office, or we can meet at one of my partner venues.
What to expect
Coffee tasting: You’ll sample different coffees and learn to recognise flavours and describe them in words.
Palate challenge: Using a professional flavour kit and the basic taste profiles, you’ll train your nose and palate. Who in the team can identify the most?
Brewing experiment: The same coffee, a different brewing method – suddenly a completely different flavour.
Coffee Myths Quiz: We’ll debunk the biggest misconceptions.
And if, after all that, your coffee is still just your caffeine fix, that’s perfectly fine.

Everyone is very welcome. You won’t need a single sip of coffee for the Taste and Smell Challenge or the Myths Quiz. During the tasting, simply smelling the coffee is enough to join in the conversation – though you might end up having a tiny sip after all.
Coffee is such a natural part of our everyday lives that it’s fascinating to learn more about this product, from its origins right through to the cup. It’ll certainly come in handy the next time you’re having a chat over coffee. Many non-coffee-drinkers have already taken part; some were surprised, and so far everyone has always learnt something new.
